Death in dreams is a consistent symbol for change, transition and separation<\/del> that should not be interpreted literally. Dreams of a child, sibling, parent, spouse or friend dying reflect change in our perception of that relationship. Old qualities of the person are “passing away,” new qualities are being recognized. Dreams of the death of an ex-lover reflect separation in the relationship, while the death of a love interest in a dream reflects a change in your feelings for that person (your feelings for them have “died.”) Death of an enemy or a threat in a dream often reflects your sense that you have or can overcome or evade that person in waking life. \u00a0Mothers of toddlers often dream of accidents, including death, befalling a child. These dreams are not precognitive. Rather, a mother’s concern for her child’s safety, represented by the accident, never rests!<\/p>\n

Dreaming of one’s own death (a dreamer may witness his or her funeral or may “just know” that he or she has died) symbolizes an inner metamorphosis and an evolution of development. Old ways of perceiving are passing away; new self-discoveries are being made. This dream is a symbol of transition.
