Hi Lisa –<\/p>\n

Believe it or not, I think your two dreams are related, and I\u2019ll tell you why.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack to school\u201d dreams are incredibly common among busy people. Doctors, lawyers, professionals, busy housewives\u2014nearly everyone has had one. (Do an informal survey among your friends\u2014you\u2019ll be surprised how many of them will say, \u201cOh yeah! I\u2019ve had that dream!\u201d)<\/p>\n

Test-taking dreams are clear reflections of the anxiety we once felt in school\u2014when we prepared to take a test. \u201cWill I pass? Am I prepared? Did I remember to study everything?\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that we\u2019ve grown up and the days of test taking are long in our past, the dreams strike us as odd. Surely we can\u2019t still be traumatized about taking some test in college? The link, though, is that our everyday life still is full of similar \u201ctests\u201d and anxieties. Will we be able to complete all the errands we have to do tomorrow? Will we be able to grocery shop, clean the house, and pick up our kids from school\u2014in time to cart them off to soccer practice?<\/p>\n

If we work (in addition to all our everyday tasks) we have a second set of anxieties. Will we finish our work projects on time? Will our co-workers think we have done a good job? Will we keep our jobs? Will we \u201cpass the test?\u201d<\/p>\n

Are we beginning to see the connection? The anxiety we feel in our everyday lives… reminds us of the anxiety we felt back in high school or college before an exam. We\u2019re about to be tested, and we wonder if we can keep up!<\/p>\n

Because you\u2019re a busy Mom, it\u2019s normal that your daughter feels she occasionally doesn\u2019t get to see you as much as she would like. The fact that you\u2019ve written in here to ask about your dream, however, to me indicates a \u201ccaring for\u201d Mom rather than a \u201crunning away\u201d Mom. Your daughter sees a mom who is always running, but I think it is clear you are a Mom who is running for her daughter\u2014not away from her.<\/p>\n

Congrats on being a \u201cSuper Mom.\u201d You\u2019re daughter is a lucky child. Your care will be reflected in her life forever.<\/span><\/p>\n
