Once in a while, I dream that I\u2019ve returned to some house and suddenly I realize that I\u2019ve forgotten about all these birds. They haven\u2019t been fed or anything. I have a deep sense of guilt as I approach the cages, expecting to find mouldering piles of feathers. I usually find seed cups with only husks in them and dirty cages, but the birds are usually alive somehow, although they stare at me with accusing, beady little eyes.
